The Loin and the Lamb.

Jesus is beautifully described in Scripture as both the Lion and the Lamb—a powerful image that captures the fullness of who He is. As the Lion of the tribe of Judah, He stands in strength, majesty, and authority. As the Lamb of God, He embodies humility, sacrifice, and gentle love. These two images are not opposites but perfect complements, revealing a Savior who is mighty enough to conquer sin and death, yet tender enough to lay down His life for His people. In Jesus, we see the fullness of God’s character expressed in a way that draws our hearts to worship.

The Lion speaks of Jesus’ supreme kingship. Lions are known for their power, dominance, and royal presence—so when the Bible calls Jesus the Lion of Judah, it announces that He rules over all creation. His authority is unquestioned and eternal. No power on earth or in the spiritual realm can stand against Him. When Jesus rose from the dead, He proved Himself victorious over every enemy, including Satan, sin, and death. This is not a distant reign but a present and personal one, for Jesus uses His strength to guard, defend, and lead His people.

The Lamb speaks of His sacrifice. Lambs are gentle, innocent creatures, and in the Old Testament, they were offered as sin sacrifices. Jesus came as the true and perfect Lamb of God—without blemish, willing to shed His blood to take away the sins of the world. At the cross, Jesus revealed the depth of God’s love through His humility and obedience. He did not fight back, He did not resist, but willingly gave Himself so others could live. This Lamb is the One who invites us to come close, cleansed by grace, resting in His mercy, and receiving everlasting forgiveness.

Holding these two images together reveals the wonder of Christ’s nature. He is fierce against evil, yet merciful toward sinners. He brings justice against darkness, yet compassion to the broken. Jesus conquers through love, not force. In Him, perfect strength meets perfect gentleness. The Lion ensures that nothing can snatch us from His hand; the Lamb ensures that we are welcomed into that hand without fear. This balance shows that His rule is righteous, and His love is trustworthy.

Because Jesus is both Lion and Lamb, believers find comfort and courage in Him. When life feels overwhelming, we can trust His mighty power to defend and deliver us. When we feel unworthy or broken, we can trust His gentle grace to restore and forgive us. One day, we will see the Lion and the Lamb seated on the throne, worshipped by every nation and every tongue. Until that glorious day, we walk in faith, knowing our Savior is strong enough to save and tender enough to love. In Jesus—the Lion and the Lamb—we find everything our souls will ever need.

The Lord is a strong tower and refused.
