Born Again

Being born again is the great spiritual awakening that happens when a person turns to the Lord Jesus Christ with faith and repentance. It is not a physical rebirth, but a transformation of the heart, a new life given by God Himself. Jesus spoke of this in John 3 when He told Nicodemus that no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. This new birth is the work of the Holy Spirit, opening our eyes to our need for a Savior and drawing us into the grace and truth of Christ. It marks the beginning of a new journey—one filled with hope, forgiveness, and restored fellowship with God.
When a person is born again, their old life passes away, and a new life begins. Scripture says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things are passed away; all things are become new.” This means our old patterns of sin, bondage, and separation from God no longer define us. Instead, the Holy Spirit renews our minds and hearts, giving us new desires to love God, follow His ways, and walk in righteousness. While the flesh may still struggle, the new nature inside us is alive, eager to grow in the likeness of Jesus.
Being born again also brings a deep assurance of God’s love and acceptance. Before salvation, many live with guilt, fear, or a sense of emptiness; but when we come to Christ, He washes us clean and places His peace within us. The Holy Spirit testifies to our hearts that we are now children of God—not distant strangers but beloved sons and daughters. This identity brings comfort in trials, strength in weakness, and confidence in God’s promises. We no longer stand alone; we stand in His grace.
The new birth also changes the way we see others and the world around us. Love becomes our guiding principle, reflecting the love that God has poured into our hearts. We begin to forgive more readily, serve more joyfully, and seek unity rather than division. A born-again life seeks to shine the light of Christ into a dark world, showing kindness, mercy, and truth. This transformation is not forced—it flows naturally from the Spirit’s work inside of us.
Finally, being born again is only the beginning of a lifelong journey with Jesus. It is the doorway to discipleship, where we grow daily in faith, obedience, and fellowship with God. Through Scripture, prayer, worship, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we become more like Christ day by day. And as we walk with Him, we experience His faithfulness, His correction, His joy, and His sustaining grace. The new birth sets us on the path that leads to eternal life, a life filled with purpose, hope, and the everlasting love of God.
