Surrender


Surrendering to the Lord Jesus is one of the most profound and life-changing decisions a person can make. It is not a moment of defeat, but a moment of true freedom, where we willingly lay down our burdens, fears, and striving at the feet of the One who loves us perfectly. When we come to Jesus with open hands and an open heart, we acknowledge that He alone is the rightful Lord of our lives. This surrender is the doorway to peace, for only Christ can calm the storms within us and lead us into the life we were created for.

To surrender is to trust. It means believing that Jesus knows what is best for us, even when we cannot see the path ahead. In the Gospels, Jesus invites His followers to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him. This is not a call to hardship for the sake of hardship, but a call to place our confidence in Him rather than in ourselves. Trusting Jesus means letting Him guide our decisions, our actions, and our desires. When we surrender, we trade our limited understanding for His perfect wisdom.

Surrender also means letting go of sin and the old life that once held us captive. It is choosing daily to turn away from attitudes, habits, and behaviors that are contrary to God’s will. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, surrender becomes a continual process of being shaped into Christ’s likeness. As we yield more and more to Him, we find that the things that once controlled us lose their grip. Jesus does not just forgive us—He transforms us.

This surrender brings deep rest to the soul. The burdens we carry—worry, guilt, shame, and anxiety—are too heavy for us, but they are not too heavy for Jesus. He invites us, “Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” When we surrender our hearts to Him, we discover that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. We learn to abide in His love, allowing His presence to fill us with strength, hope, and peace.

Ultimately, surrendering to the Lord Jesus is an act of love. It is the response of a heart that recognizes His sacrifice, His goodness, and His unfailing grace. We surrender not out of fear, but out of gratitude for the One who gave His life for us. And as we yield more of ourselves to Christ, we discover that He gives us far more in return—new life, renewed purpose, and the joy of walking closely with Him day by day. In surrender, we do not lose; we gain everything that truly matters.

The Lord is a strong tower and refused.
